Beijing W to Continue Starwood Expansion Strategy in Asia

The W Beijing Chang’an, opening on Aug. 1 2014 reflect a surge in Starwood properties in Asia. The hotel will offer easy access to the Forbidden City, the Silk Market and Tiananmen Square. Starwood plans to double the W brand presence in Asia by the end of 2018 with nearly 20 W Hotels and Retreats in nine countries in the region and five hotels in China.

The new properties include the first W Hotel in mainland China, located in Pearl River New Town, which opened in Guangzhou recently. This hotel is a new upscale district featuring luxury shopping and entertainment facilities. The 317-room property has seven restaurants and bars, spa and fitness center. Starwood is to open further W hotels in China in Beijing, Shanghai, Changsha and Suzhou.

Additional W Hotels have been announced in India, Indonesia and Malaysia. W Hotels recently opened in Singapore and Bangkok. The W brand first entered Asia in 2004 with the opening of W Seoul - Walkerhill. Since then, W Hotels has strengthened its presence in the region with eight hotels and retreats in seven countries, including properties in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Maldives, and Hong Kong.
